Upcoming Events

Principal's Corner

The following information will help our students and parents prepare for the upcoming school year.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.  We are waiting to have full information regarding students who ride the bus, but we are encouraging all of our parents to check your child's temperature before they leave the school regardless of how they will be arriving.

The doors to the high school will not be open prior to 7:30 a.m.

7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
- Students will move directly to their first period class upon arriving at school

*Students will be encouraged to enter the building upon arriving at school and not hang out with their friends in the parking lot.  The Effingham County Health Department needs for us to observe all social distancing norms at all times from arrival until departure.

*Students will be required to have their temperature taken upon entering the building each day, and masks will be required at all times when you are inside the building.  You should plan to bring your own mask to school to ensure comfort and compliance.  School appropriate creativity is strongly encouraged.  You may also bring water bottles for the day.

*Breakfast will be served on carts and consumed in the classroom.

*We will not issue lockers to begin the school year.  Students will be permitted to carry backpacks with them during the day, as long as they are not overly large.

*Students are encouraged to “space out” their arrival times, but we will continue to count tardies, so please do not arrive at the last minute.

8:00 a.m. - 9:18 a.m. = First Period

*Students will not be permitted to leave the classroom once the bell has rung, except for  I.E.P. support.

*There will be scheduled breaks for all classes during first, second, and fourth periods.

*Hallway travel will be “Right Side Only.”  Teachers will be in the “median” to discourage students from grouping and to keep the process in motion.

9:22a.m. - 10:39 a.m. = Second Period

10:43 a.m. - 12:34 p.m. = Third Period

First Lunch = 10:43 a.m. - 11:13 a.m.

Second Lunch = 11:24 a.m. - 11:54 a.m.

Third Lunch = 12:04 p.m. - 12:34 p.m.

*Lunch will be limited to fifty students in an area, and we will utilize the cafeteria and  community room to accommodate.

*Students who bring lunch from home will carry lunch with them during the day.

*No outside lunch will be permitted for delivery, and no visitors will be admitted.

12:38 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. = Fourth Period

*Junior and Senior drivers and walkers will be dismissed at 1:55 p.m.

*Sophomore and Freshman drivers and walkers will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m.

*Bus riders will be dismissed at 2:05 p.m.

Initially we will not use locker rooms for Physical Education.  The curriculum begins with Leisure Games, such as bags, horseshoes, and others which will not require a uniform.  When weather dictates, indoor activities will be adopted.  Students are required to wear face coverings when Physical Education is indoors.

Extracurricular practice times will be discussed with individual coaches by Mrs. Bueker.  Heat and travel issues will be a major concern, particularly for our outside sports and our out of district coaches.

Student drivers will be instructed to leave the premises as quickly as possible, and that if they are still in the parking lot when the buses turn the corner off of Division Street onto Ewing Street, they will be required to remain parked until the buses have loaded and left.

In the morning, we will utilize the library as a “quarantine room” in the event that a student arrives at school with a temperature above the recommended 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit.  Students who exhibit symptoms of the virus listed in the I.S.B.E./I.D.P.H. guidelines will be sent to the nurse’s office in isolation until Mrs. Duplayee can confirm a “Safe or Send” diagnosis.

With so many new guidelines to follow, some things will never change;  we are respectful, ready, responsible, and safe.  We have Indian Integrity.  We can't wait to see all of you again!
