Altamont Night

A Strong Start: Celebrating the 2025–26 School Year at Altamont CUSD #10

As we move through the school year, one thing is clear across Altamont Community Unit School District #10: our students, staff, and families are making this an exceptional year filled with achievement, service, and school pride. From the first day of school to today, our classrooms, gyms, and hallways have been alive with energy and purpose — a true reflection of what makes Altamont special.

A Spirit-Filled Start to the Year

The excitement began early with a strong turnout at fall activities, including spirited trivia game nights, recent Homecoming events, and enthusiastic support for our athletic teams. From packed gymnasiums to creative student-led theme nights, the community has shown up in full force to support our Indians and Lady Indians. Student leadership groups have continued to push for school spirit and involvement, creating a welcoming atmosphere for the community to feel connected. We have introduced our "Fan of the Game" for the basketball season, awarding that very first honor to Sam Gnuse, a life-long supporter of Altamont athletics.

Engaged Learning in Every Classroom

Across the district, teachers have been guiding students through hands-on, real-world learning experiences. From career-focused elective courses to interactive projects in core subjects, classrooms have been buzzing with creativity and curiosity.

Elective programs like Photojournalism have showcased student voices in meaningful ways — interviewing staff, telling stories from around the school, and learning foundational skills in media, communication, and storytelling. In other areas, students have participated in community-connected learning, such as nutrition and foods classes visiting local establishments to see classroom concepts come to life.

Both buildings have embraced learning that goes beyond worksheets and textbooks. Teachers are continually finding new ways to challenge students, foster critical thinking, and build skills that will carry them into the future.

A Commitment to Service and Leadership

Service is at the heart of Altamont CUSD #10, and this year has highlighted that more than ever through our district-wide community service initiative, Be A Tiffany. Inspired by and named in honor of a former student known for her kindness and willingness to help others, Be A Tiffany encourages students to give back to the community while earning community service hours toward graduation.

Students have already contributed in meaningful ways, including:

  • Putting up Christmas lights in the park

  • Assisting with the Lions Club food drive

  • Helping with after-school care

  • Volunteering at Relay for Life

  • Moving and setting up picnic tables for community events

  • Reading to younger students

  • Helping at the Fireman’s Breakfast

  • Assisting with the ALIS BBQ Cookoff

  • AND MORE!

These opportunities not only support the community but also build responsibility, leadership, empathy, and real-world skills. Alongside this initiative, our Altamont High School National Honor Society continues to serve through events like the annual American Red Cross Blood Drive, further emphasizing the district’s commitment to developing caring, community-minded citizens.

Celebrating Achievement — On and Off the Court

A strong start to the school year has also been marked by athletic success and community excitement. Our athletes continue to represent Altamont with heart, discipline, and pride. Whether on the volleyball court, basketball floor, cross country course, or in any of our student activities, the dedication shown by students and coaches has been inspiring.

Community partners have also stepped in to support our programs, sponsoring our streaming platform Hudl. Broadcast groups like Hudl have provided fans with opportunities to follow our teams even when they can’t attend in person — a meaningful connection for families, alumni, and fans who love cheering on our athletes.

A Community That Shows Up

What truly makes Altamont CUSD #10 exceptional is the unity of the community. Families support their students. Local organizations partner with the district. Staff members go above and beyond. Students give their best in the classroom, on the court, on the stage, and in service to others.

From elementary school events to high school celebrations, you can feel the pride that runs through the district. Every accomplishment — big or small — adds to the story of a positive, successful school year.

As we head into the rest of the 2025–26 school year, we are excited to continue building on this momentum. With strong relationships, dedicated educators, talented students, and a supportive community, the future remains bright for Altamont CUSD #10.
